STRENGTHENING MENTAL HEALTH and Building Resilience
in La Porte County’s Youth
Mental health is about how people think, feel, and act. It affects how people handle stress and anxiety, enjoy life, relate to one another, and make decisions. Sometimes what's going on in our lives affects our mental health and sometimes our brain biology affects our mental health. Good mental health is just as important as good physical health.
Mental illnesses, just like physical illnesses, are medical conditions that are real and treatable. When your mental health isn’t good, it is important to share your feelings with someone who can get you the right help.
Your Mental Health is Just as Important as Your Physical Health
United Way of La Porte County is proud to partner with local organizations to bring life saving mental health services to our community’s youth and the people who love them.

Youth Mental Health Needs Assessment
United Way of La Porte County conducted a Youth Mental Health Community Needs Assessment in 2024 to describe the scope of youth mental health issues across the community, as well as to identify best practices to address youth and community mental health needs. The report features an array of data on behavioral health resources and needs in La Porte County, with a focus on short-term and long-term solutions.

We are deeply grateful to all who participated in developing this report.
